Aromatherapy
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment based on the external use of essential oils diluted in plant carrier oils to maintain and promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Application methods include massage, aromatic bath, compresses, sprays or room diffusers.
The word "Aromatherapy" was coined in 1928 by a French chemist, Réné Maurice Gattefossé, but the practice of aromatherapy did not begin there. Aromatic plants and herbs have been used for healing since the dawn of humankind. When headaches, sore muscles, burns, coughs, skin conditions, and any other common health complaints arose, healers of the time looked to the local flora for healing.
Today, aromatherapy is practiced both as an alternative medicine and as a beauty therapy. Aromatherapy's holistic qualities provide benefit to the body, mind and spirit.
