Candle Safety and Care
Here are a few tips to help you maximize the life of your candles, and to enjoy them safely.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Ensure adequate clearance from combustibles such as dry greenery, draperies, sheers, lampshades or garments.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Use a non-flammable, heat-resistant surface, even for candles that have their own containers.
- Never move a lighted candle.
- Trim your wick to ¼ inch before each use.
- Burn candles in a well-ventilated room, but away from drafts, heat vents, fans and air conditioners, open doors and windows, and people traffic.
- Store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place. Tapers or dinner candles should be stored flat to preventing warping.
- To remove dust and fingerprints from a candle, gently rub the surface with a piece of nylon or a soft cloth.
- Do not burn candles in glass items not specifically designed for candles. Glass candleholders are specifically manufactured to withstand the temperature changes that occur when burning a candle. Everyday glassware is not designed for burning candles.
- Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting. Candles may fade if they are left in bright light for an extended period of time.
- Snuff out candles to prevent wax from spraying and to keep the wick centered.
Enjoy your candles!
